Pastor Carrie asked me to write a bit about my upcoming sabbatical as your pastor which will be oc-curring from July 7th to September 8th. When our District Superintendent, Ian Fitzpatrick, proposed the idea of a sabbatical at my pastoral review last summer, I was a little surprised. DRIVING TO KENYA

Richmond, BC resident, Douglas Woods, is going to Kenya this summer – and he is driving to get there. Doug is part of a team that is going to build an extension on an elementary school in the Kawangware slum of Nairobi, Kenya. The estimated cost of the project is $25,000.00. Each team member is required to pay his or her own way at a cost of approximately $3,000.00. When Doug was accepted on the team, he applied for a shuttle bus driving position with R.F. Luxury Shuttle Ltd of Richmond, explaining his mission to GM and owner, Raymond Grewal. [READ MORE]

The Church of the Nazarene‘s Canada Central District presently covers the province of Ontario. Our churches are located throughout the province, from Ottawa in the east to Windsor in the west to Niagara in the south and Sault Ste Marie in the north. We have 41 fully organized congregations and 2 Compassionate Ministry Centres, The Sharing Place and Manantial Neighbourhood Services. We have 3 full-time chaplains serving in hospitals and corrections ministries. Elaine Bumstead, Director of International Projects for Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Canada, reports that ―the country of Sri Lanka is suffering with unusual flooding, and that Bangladesh is experiencing unusual cold. NCM Canada has contributed $3500 for blankets in Bangladesh for people suffering from the cold.
