DRIVING TO KENYA

Richmond, BC resident, Douglas Woods, is going to Kenya this summer – and he is driving to get there. Doug is part of a team that is going to build an extension on an elementary school in the Kawangware slum of Nairobi, Kenya. The estimated cost of the project is $25,000.00. Each team member is required to pay his or her own way at a cost of approximately $3,000.00. When Doug was accepted on the team, he applied for a shuttle bus driving position with R.F. Luxury Shuttle Ltd of Richmond, explaining his mission to GM and owner, Raymond Grewal.

Friday and Saturday evenings from 8:00 PM to the early morning hours, Doug picks up passengers from YVR airport and transports them to various airport hotels in Richmond. When passengers tip him for his service, he expresses his gratitude for their generosity and offers his business card which explains why he is driving.

The Kenya 2013 Work and Witness Team is composed of twelve individuals from the Vancouver First Church of the
Nazarene in Vancouver, BC. The team will be leaving the first week of July and will return 15 days later. The composition of the team includes a nurse, a chartered accountant, a retired engineer, two couples and Anne Scarrow, another resident of Richmond, BC.

The project has been well researched both by the Senior Pastor of the Vancouver First, Rev. Grant Zweigle, and Team Leader, Matt Smedley. For further information, please visit: http://blogs.nazarene.org/vancouvernazarene/kenya-work-witness-trip/.
